Do you ever encounter people that make excuses for you for being too busy?
It happens to me all the time! Like, almost daily!
Today it came in the form of a text message: I hate to bother you but…
I’ve gotten to a spot where I actually get a bit frustrated when people excuse me for being too busy. How do they get to decide that I was too over occupied? When did I give up the right to decide what I can and cannot handle!?
Seeing this trend happen more frequently, I came up with a solution. My plan was simple, interrupt every person who used those words and kindly and graciously tell them that you don’t get to define if I’m too busy, I have the time and want to help you as best I can.
Now the way that help manifests itself may not be exactly what they had in mind, but the reality is, I want to be fully there for every person who wants to meet with me, and so, yes, I have the time!
Am I a busy guy? Yep! Just like you are, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have time for you.
I think what we are finding in our culture right now is that everyone is just too busy and because they feel their life is too busy, well then that means mine must be as well. So because they don’t think they could accommodate what they are asking me to do, they open with, I know your busy, but…
